When our tutors were asked the following questions, this is how they responded:
- Hobbies:
- I'm a runner. I like watching my favorite TV shows either on TV or on Hulu. I enjoy hanging out with my buddies, keeping in touch with my old friends. I like soccer and ultimate frisbee too
Why do you want to be a tutor?
- I know some people need help, and I know if I were in their position, I'd want someone to be there to. I have a solid educational background, and I'm all for helping out in the local community in my new home here in ATX. I know a lot of high school athletes (mostly distance runners) get stuck with fill-in coaches, and I have a good knowledge of proper training for running, with 4:35mile and 1:57 800m times to my credit.
Why should a student pick you?
- I'm a freshman at the University of Texas-Austin majoring in Physics. I have a good all-around knowledge, and I'm very down to earth. I graduated in the top 5% of out of my graduating class of over 900 students. I made straight A's in all of my math and physics classes, and passed both AP tests to boot. I'm very comfortable explaining processes step-by-step. I might not have much previous tutoring experience, but I'm confident in my ability to help a student understand concepts.
Personal Statement:
- A little more about me. I'm 18 years old, and I'm from Willemstad, Curacao, a country in the south Caribbean near Aruba. I moved to the states in 1998 when I was 7 (don't worry, I speak perfect English). I grew up the 2nd half of my life in the NASA area, southeast Houston. If you've ever heard of the Kemah Boardwalk, I used to live literally down the road from it. I have 2 great parents, my mom who's American, and my dad who's Dutch (I have dual citizenship), and a 15 year old sister, who now live in The Woodlands. I chose to come to UT-Austin because I love the university and the city. I want to become an Astrophysicist.
Any Last Words?
- Here I bisect a great divide
Between endeavors of a lifetime
And good intentions gone awry
